National Author's Day

National Author's Day is celebrated on November 1st each year. It's a day dedicated to honoring and appreciating authors and the books they create.

The idea for this holiday was conceived in 1928 by Nellie Verne Burt McPherson, who was inspired to create the day after receiving a heartfelt letter from her favorite author while she was recovering in a hospital during World War I. The day encourages people to show their appreciation for authors by reading their books, sharing their favorite novels, and even writing notes to their favorite authors to brighten up the sometimes lonely business of being a writer. It's a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the creativity and hard work that goes into writing.

Dewey Decimal System Day

We celebrate Dewey Decimal System Day! It's observed annually on December 10th to honor Melvil Dewey, the creator of the Dewey Decimal Classification system, which revolutionized library organization. This day is a tribute to his contributions and the enduring impact of his system on libraries worldwide. Libraries often mark the occasion with special events, such as tours, book displays, and activities that highlight the importance of library organization and classification. It's a great opportunity for people to learn more about how libraries work and the history behind the Dewey Decimal System.

National Science Fiction Day

National Science Fiction Day is celebrated on January 2nd to honor the birth of famed science fiction writer Isaac Asimov. Asimov, born on January 2, 1920, is considered one of the "Big Three" science fiction writers, alongside Robert A. Heinlein and Arthur C. Clarke. The day was established to recognize Asimov's contributions to the genre and to celebrate science fiction as a whole. It's a day for fans to indulge in their favorite sci-fi books, movies, TV shows, and other media.
